Record year for Richard Burton 10K – more than £300,000 raised for South Wales charities

The Tata Steel Richard Burton 10K has raised over £300,000 for South Wales communities.

The 2025 race marked one of its most memorable years yet, with record participation, and another significant fundraising milestone reached.

This year’s presentation evening, hosted by Tata Steel UK, celebrated both the 43rd anniversary of the event and the 100th anniversary of Richard Burton’s birth.

Since the race began, it has raised over £300,000 for grassroots charities and vital community projects across South Wales – a figure that continues to grow thanks to the generosity of runners, volunteers and supporters.

The race, based in Cwmafan, Port Talbot, also coincides with the Kevin Webber Mini Miler, sponsored by Swansea-based contracting firm, Runtech

At the heart of the event is race director Shaun Tobin MBE, recognised last year for more than 25 years of exceptional service to local sport, charitable fundraising and community engagement. His longstanding dedication has helped transform the Richard Burton 10K from a small local fixture into one of Wales’ most cherished community events.

Reflecting on this year’s achievement, Shaun said:

“Every year, the Richard Burton 10K brings our community together. The support from runners, volunteers and sponsors ensures we can continue helping local causes. To see record numbers of participants in such a special centenary year has been incredible.”

Funds raised from the 2025 race will support a wide range of organisations making a real difference locally, including:
•    Blood Bikes Wales
•    Walk and Talk
•    Port Talbot Sea Cadets
•    Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff

. . . Along with numerous grassroots groups and sports clubs across the region.

The evening also welcomed Charlotte Burton, granddaughter of Richard Burton, who spoke warmly about her family’s connection to the area and the pride she feels in seeing the race continue her grandfather’s legacy.

With its growing reputation, strong volunteer base and increasing runner numbers, the Richard Burton 10K remains a flagship event for the Port Talbot community and a celebration of everything it stands for.

Entries for the 45th Richard Burton 10K, taking place on Sunday 1 November 2026, are now open.
