International Women's Day - Becky Brockhouse, Manufacturing Team Member

Becky Brockhouse – Manufacturing Team Member

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations and this year’s theme, Give to Gain we’re delighted to speak with Becky Brockhouse, a Manufacturing Team Member at Building Systems UK. Now in her third year with the business, Becky moved from a finance background into manufacturing, and she hasn’t looked back.

Who has played a supportive role in your career, and what did they give that helped you grow?

Josh Jarvis, Ryan Davidson and Mark Beck along with others have been a huge support in my journey. Since September, they’ve been sharing their knowledge and experience, mentoring me step by step as I’ve developed into my new role in composite panel manufacturing. Their patience and guidance have made all the difference, and thanks to them, I’m due to be signed off on the role very soon.

What’s one thing you’re proud to have achieved in your time here?

I’m really proud of everything I’ve achieved so far. I always wanted to work at Tata Steel and tried for years to get in I even interviewed for another role in a different part of the business before joining Building Systems UK, but I didn’t have the experience at the time. Being here now means a lot to me.

I’m also proud to be working in a predominantly male environment - I’m the only female on my shift - and to genuinely feel part of the team. I’ve been fully accepted, and that sense of belonging is something I’m really proud of.

What’s something people often misunderstand about these roles?

People often assume that women won’t enjoy working in a male dominated environment especially in manufacturing on the factory floor. But that simply isn’t true. I’ve experienced acceptance, encouragement and real opportunities to progress. It’s a genuinely inclusive environment, and it’s great to see opinions changing for the better about women working in manufacturing.

Has anyone inspired you in your career so far?

Yes, I often think about a colleague here and his career journey. He started out in a production role, just like I did, and worked his way into a significant leadership position. Seeing his progression reminds me that it can be done.

Any final thoughts, reflecting on International Women’s Day – Give to Gain?

I’m really excited to see where this journey takes me. I’m enjoying my time at Building Systems UK and I genuinely love working with my teammates. Alongside my role in Manufacturing, I’ve also taken on extra responsibilities, I’m a Health & Safety Rep as well as a Mental Health First Aider and a First Aider. Supporting others is something I’m passionate about.

If I had to choose one word to describe my message for International Women’s Day 2026, it would be support. I’ve received so much guidance, encouragement and mentorship during my time here. It’s helped me gain knowledge, confidence and the belief that I can keep progressing in my career. That’s what Give to Gain means to me: people giving their time and experience so others can grow. I’ve gained so much because of it, and it’s made me excited for what comes next…
