Tata Steel UK has marked both worldsteel Day for Safety and Health and International Workers' Day, reinforcing its commitment to creating a workplace where safety and wellbeing come first.

Colleagues, Trades Union representatives and contractor partners across the business paused for two minutes’ silence yesterday to mark worldsteel Day for Safety and Health and International Workers’ Memorial Day.

Ceremonies were held across Tata Steel UK sites, as people came together to reflect and remember those who have been injured or lost their lives due to workplace incidents across the world.

Services this year were particularly poignant, following the tragic fatal incident at the company’s Corby site in January.

The day provides an opportunity to reflect, remember and reaffirm the company’s focus on ensuring that everyone goes home safe, healthy and well at the end of every day or every shift.

In a message to employees, Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Nair said:

“Today, as we mark both worldsteel Day for Safety and Health and International Workers’ Memorial Day, we pause, reflect, and recommit to looking out for one another. Safety isn’t just something we talk about – it’s who we are. It’s our core value.”

He added:

“In an industry as demanding as ours, absolutely nothing is more important than ensuring that everyone goes home safe, healthy and well at the end of every day or every shift.”
