Steel Works Santa delivers a Christmas miracle in Port Talbot

There was jingle and joy in the air at Neath Port Talbot Children’s Centre when the Steelworks Santa rolled into town – with sleigh-loads of kindness courtesy of Tata Steel UK.

Santa stopped by to deliver presents for every child – as well as a £1,750 Christmas boost for the centre’s Cwtsh Natur Appeal, thanks to Tata Steel Finance and its big-hearted contractor friends in Port Talbot.

Based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, the centre supports children and young people aged 0–19 – from premature babies to those with complex needs, disabilities, and mental health challenges. For many of these youngsters, visiting a public Santa’s grotto is simply too risky . . . which is why Tata Steel’s festive mission really hit home.

“A lot of our children are too immunocompromised to go out and see Santa,” said Sian Thomas, Paediatric Occupational Therapy Lead. “So, having Santa come to them is incredibly special and something they will remember forever.”

And Tata Steel didn’t just deliver – steel heroes forged Christmas magic, too. Colleagues picked tags from a tree in Finance HQ’s reception, each representing a child at the centre, complete with their age and Christmas wish. Then they went shopping, filling an incredible 125 gift bags to the brim.

Add in raffles, cake sales, contractor donations, and even a helping hand from Vodafone to transport the mountain of presents, and it was a true Christmas miracle.

Santa’s little helper – AKA Ann Marie Edwards, Finance HQ Office Manager – said:

“Community is at the heart of everything we do. Keeping the money in Port Talbot matters to us – and this centre is close to home for our colleagues and their families.

“Everyone, from Tata Steel employees to our amazing contractor partners, has been so generous in their support – we really can’t thank them enough.”

The £1,750 donation will help develop the centre’s Cwtsh Natur garden into a multi-sensory outdoor space designed to give vulnerable children a safe place to play, heal and breathe – with swings, sensory equipment, and even a peaceful memorial area.

This Christmas, the Tata Steel family proved once again that while they’re famous for strength and resilience, it’s their warmth and generosity that really shine.
