"Best in Show" at UK Metals Expo

If prizes were awarded for the biggest contribution to the UK metals industry, Tata Steel would be right up there, based on the level of the company’s involvement in UK Metals Expo this month, for which it was event sponsor.

The exhibition at the NEC in Brimingham is the largest annual gathering of experts from across the UK metals industry: steel, copper, aluminium – you name, it they were there.
And it’s a great place to do business, which is why Tata Steel hosted nearly 50 customers at an event during the show.

CEO Rajesh Nair said: “The Expo is a great opportunity for us to show the industry how we are progressing with our decarbonisation plans, and to listen and learn from industry peers and academic specialists.

“We have also used the time to talk to our customers about the challenges and opportunities they are facing in their markets, and to thank them for their support during our transition to a re-roller business model.”

Experts from across Tata Steel were central to almost every presentation, interview and panel discussion, which this year mostly focused on some of the key government policies affecting the steel industry.

Panels including high profile industry commentators discussed issues as diverse as scrap, energy, trade barriers, public procurement and industrial strategy.

Chief Commercial Officer, Anil Jhanji, who hosted the customer event added: “There is simply no other event like this in the UK where you can meet so many customers in one place over two days.”

He continued: “One thing is for sure, all our customers across different market sectors are excited about the prospect of us being able to supply them with low carbon-footprint steels, and really valued the presentation Shankar Marar Director CAPEX, made, showing our progress to date.”

You can watch interviews with some of the key participants at the show on Tata Steel’s social media feeds and @tatasteeluk on YouTube.
