This purpose-built store, spanning over 2,300 square meters will offer more DIY product choice to consumers across the local area of Torbay.
Commencing in September 2022, this landmark construction project launched amidst significant sector-wide challenges. Since then, Kier Construction has worked in all weathers to bring valuable and much needed employment space to Torbay with Progressive Systems conducting all building envelope system works to an exceptional standard with consistently supported by the expert guidance of from Building Systems UK’s technical department.
Despite various challenges, the project team implemented a forward thinking sustainable solution substantially reducing costs and the impact on the environment by repurposing surplus material to the nearby Nightingale Park Solar Farm project. Rather than transport surplus material to Tavistock, it was used to provide a level platform at Nightingale for the solar panels to be placed upon. This initiative enabled the efficient use of over forty-three thousand tonnes of material, equivalent to approximately 10 Olympic sized swimming pools moving between the two sites by avoiding long haul transport and maximising reuse, the team achieved a substantial reduction in carbon emissions and limited disruption to the local highway network, exemplifying best practice in sustainable construction and circular resource management.

As part of the projects over-arching commitment to sustainability, a robust and future-ready solution was required for the building envelope, one that addressed not only the environmental impact of materials used, but also the long term performance in application.
The selected system needed to demonstrate energy efficiency, offer long-term durability with minimal maintenance, ensuring continued value and resilience over time. It was also critical that the system met the highest standards of safety with particular emphasis on fire performance.
To deliver a high-performing and resilient building envelope, a combination of 2,000m2 of Trisomet® external trapezoidal insulated roof and wall panel system and 1,200m2 of Trisobuild® site assembled, built-up insulated roof system was specified. This comprehensive envelope solution is supported by Building Systems UK’s Platinum Plus system guarantee, offering 25 years of assured performance covering durability, structural and thermal performance - across all system components.
The Platinum® Plus guarantee ensures long-term, reliable performance with reduced operational and maintenance costs for the life of the building. Furthermore the guarantee is fully transferable, providing added value and assurance for future building owners.
A combination of Abatross Grey, White and Midnight Blue Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® coating was used to align with the Wickes’ highly recognisable company branding. This coating system carries the Confidex® Guarantee, of up to 40 years, offering exceptional corrosion resistance and colour retention, even with a roof mounted PV system.
Both Trisomet® and Trisobuild® are manufactured in factory conditions operating to quality management standard BS EN ISO 9001:2015, environmental management standard BS EN ISO 14001: 2015 and occupational health and safety management standard BS EN ISO 45001:2018. Full traceability of all component materials and certified ‘very good’ to BRE’s responsible sourcing standard BES 6001.

In terms of safety the Trisomet® insulated roof and wall panel systems holds dual certification from the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) and FM approvals, having successfully passed some of the industry’s most stringent of fire safety tests, delivering safety assurance and peace of mind for designers, contractors and building owners alike.
