Now in its 16th year, the Wizards League has become a key part of the local sporting calendar. Since its launch in 2010, thousands of young people have taken part, with many experiencing organised team sport for the very first time. By providing free playing kit and transport to every participating school, the initiative ensures that children of all backgrounds and abilities have the opportunity to get involved.

The finals marked the culmination of months of fixtures held throughout January, February and March, with teams competing for bowl, plate and cup honours. The event brought together pupils, teachers, coaches and volunteers in a celebration of teamwork, inclusion and community spirit.

Lewis Clark, Public Affairs and Community Manager at Tata Steel UK, said:

“The Wizards League really does make a difference to young people across Port Talbot. We are incredibly proud to support a programme that helps children stay active, build friendships, and grow in confidence – both on and off the pitch or court.”

Building confidence through community sport

Chris Davies, Communications Manager at Aberavon RFC, highlighted the long-term impact of the programme:

“It’s a privilege to see children playing sport, participating, being healthy and inspired to kick on and play sport outside of school. The support from Tata Steel is quality and hopefully long may it continue.”

Beyond the competition itself, the Wizards League plays an important role in encouraging lifelong participation in sport. By introducing children to structured physical activity in a positive and inclusive environment, the programme helps to lay the foundations for healthier lifestyles and stronger community connections.

As the 2026 season draws to a close, Tata Steel UK and Aberavon RFC look forward to building on the success of the Wizards League and continuing to inspire the next generation through sport.
